At the boundary between the land and the sea

John Oswald and Associates, LLC (JOA), is an Alaska based surveying company specializing in tides and water level measurement, vertical datums and geodetic networks.

Since 2003, we have supported shoreline mapping, hydrographic surveys, bathymetric lidar surveys, and special datum determination projects along Chesapeake Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, California, Oregon, the Inside Passage of Alaska, the Gulf of Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, Bristol Bay, Norton Sound, the Chukchi Sea and the Beaufort Sea.

JOA, LLC is a partnership of John Oswald, Erik Oppegard, Nathan Wardwell and Mike Zieserl. We are always looking for interesting and challenging projects along the coast of Alaska and beyond.

NEWS

NOAA/COOPS Task 17

Ongoing 2008 JOA will install temporary tide stations along the North Slope of Alaska in Point Lay, Wainwright, Barrow and Kaktovik in the summer of 2008. The Barrow observations will continue for one year, including the ice locked winter months.

NOAA/NGS Shoreline Mapping

Ongoing 2008 JOA is currently supporting three NOAA shoreline mapping contracts in Virginia (Rappahannock, James and Potomac Rivers).

NOAA/OCS Hydro Surveys

Ongoing 2008 In 2007, JOA supported 5 NOAA contracted hydrographic surveys in Chesapeake Bay, the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska. JOA is currently planning to support 4 NOAA contracted hydrographic surveys in the Gulf of Mexico in spring 2008.

NOAA/OCS Bathymetric Lidar Surveys

August 2007 In 2007, JOA supported 2 NOAA contracted bathymetric lidar surveys in Southeast Alaska.

NOAA/COOPS Task 12

November 2007 JOA completed year long tide observations at St Paul, Pribilof Islands and Port Moller on the Alaska Peninsula. JOA will provide continued operation of these tide stations at NOAA's request. Four additional tide observations were completed at Dillingham, Hooper Bay, Platinum and Tin City.

NOAA/COOPS NWLONS

September 2007 JOA has completed the third season of maintenance and upgrades for the NOAA National Water Level Observation Network in Alaska under subcontract to David Evans and Associates, Inc. JOA will perform maintenance for all 24 NWLON stations in Alaska in 2008 for DEA.
